Habitiats

So, this term Room 12 have been learning about habitats. These are some of the pictures that show our caterpillar and snail poems around our garden habitat picture, and some of our signposts we made to protect our beaches from people leaving rubbish on our beautiful New Zealand beaches. Room 10's Assembly

Room 10's Assembly:

We were very excited last week! We hosted the whole school assembly.
Our theme was raindrops and we made lovely raindrop crowns.
Here is a photo of us after the assembly.

Aaliyah introduced our raindrop item. Well done.

Arushi was nice and clear! She appreciated the audience for watching and listening to our item.

Aiyana spoke clearly and asked Mr Smith to introduce any new students to our school.

Rebecca was brave and asked Mrs Wylie to give out the pupil of the week awards.

 Well done Hendrixx! He received the pupil of the week.

Saphire was a confident speaker. She asked the school councillors to announce the best class award.

Diwali

We celebrated Diwali and some of the children dressed up in their best outfits. They looked amazing! We also drew rangoli patterns. These patterns are to welcome people into our homes/classrooms.

For our Term 3 Topic  “Where in the World”, Room 6 children had to design a Coat of Arms that showed their families uniqueness.  The children then had to share to the class what the symbols on their family Coat of Arms represented.

Where in the world with Room 12

We looked at 'Te Ika a Maui' story to understand the shape of New Zealand/ Aotearoa. We then drew the fish and the waka to represent the North and South Islands. We looked at factual writing about a stingray and waka next to link into our writing focus. Here are some pictures of our work.

Olympic Fun Day - Room 10

Olympic Fun Day Preparation

Room 10 represented Thailand for our Olympic Fun Day. We learnt how to say 'hello' in Thailand. In Thailand, they have their two hands together and bow. We say Sawadee. We also looked into Thailand's culture. 







Our Big Book "Wishy Washy Mirror" Response

In Room 10, we get to wear our 'acting out' hat and become one of the characters in the story. Last week, we have read our big book "Wishy Washy Mirror" and tried to act out one of the characters in the story. Then we asked questions to the actor.

First we had Mikail acting out as the duck. One of the questions we asked Mikail was by Rebecca: "Why did you see yourself in the mirror?"
Mikail answered: "Because I thought it was a picture of me!"

Then Tejal was acting out as the pig. 
Saphire asked: "Why were you infront of the mirror?" and Tejal said: "I wanted to see the mirror."

Report Writing on Tortoise

Report Writing on Tortoise

Room 10 learnt how to write a report on Tortoise. We watched a documentary about Tortoise. We brainstormed together as a class about facts and information on Tortoise such as what they have and can do. Then we made a report and wrote 2 facts about Tortoise! We stuck eyes and made shells too!!

Room 10 looked into what makes New Zealand special. We found out that silver fern is very special in New Zealand. We decided to make a classroom flag to represent our uniqueness in Room 10. Hope you like our classroom flag!!

R14's Assembly

Room 14 were working really hard to practice our two items for Week 9's assembly.
We learned a Samoan Song, Le Aute.
We also worked hard on our production song Drip Drop.

Pyjama Day in Room 9 - The Marshmallow Challenge

Take 20 sticks of dry spaghetti, a metre of masking tape, a metre of string and one marshmallow.  The Challenge:  teams (of 4 or 5) have 18 minutes to use the material provided to construct a self supporting tower with the marshmallow on top.  

We had some great teamwork displayed and one team successful in constructing a structure that would support the marshmallow.  A great start to a fun day!  The team showing the best team work and the team with the standing structure each got a couple of (untouched!) marshmallows to eat & a round of applause.
















Book Creator

The Peppa Pig Reading Group in Room 8, have been learning to use 'Book Creator' to record their reading to help with their fluency. They have been learning to group letter-sounds to work out words they don't know as good readers.

Room 8 students have been learning to write and say their Pepeha's to present to our class and our school whanau for Assembly. They have learn't about how to say who their whanau are and their closest maunga (mountain) and awa (river). Ka pai Room 8!

Ruma tekau ma rima have been learning to count backwards from 10 to 0.  We have been studying what ‘before’ numbers are from 10 to 0 and what the word ‘before’ means.

Garden Club

The Garden keeps on growing. June brings lemons, cabbages, beetroot and broccoli.

Daffodils have been planted and are waiting for the spring.

Pea and poppy seedlings, are growing in the glasshouse.

We are having a go at indoor tomatoes.

Passionfruit are starting to fruit.

The strawberries are sleeping until the summer.

Samoan Language week


Talofa Room 15 have been celebrating Samoan Language week. We have learnt how to say hello, good bye and how we are feeling. We have also enjoyed learning a new Samoan song 'Le Aute'.
